Due Date

Well, no baby on his due date. But I've really been preparing myself for that since I found out I was pregnant... We saw Heather, my midwife, today and scheduled an induction for 5 AM on Wednesday, February 29th. She is out of town this weekend, so I'm hoping that he comes on his own, but not before Sunday - I'd really like for her to deliver him. I'm not really having any signs of labor other than Braxton Hicks contractions, but I'm dilated 1 1/2 cm and 70% effaced, so that's "favorable." Thankfully, Jesus knows all of this and has every detail in his loving hands :)

We've had a fun, beautiful, springy day! We all wore shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops and spent at least 2 hours outside. We had a picnic with the Goars and they stayed with Jett at the park while Casey and I went to see Heather. We ate Italian Ice/Frozen Custard at Rita's after the appointment and then said goodbye to our sweet friends. Sadly, both Casey and Jett are sick with upper respiratory infections :( Praying that they are all well when Granger arrives and that I remain well throughout the duration!! Jett watched a lot of shows since he wasn't feeling well, Casey got some work done and I got a manicure and pedicure so I can have pretty nails for the big day (thank you, Paige and Sean!).

Planning to go to the Ladies' Retreat at Sojourn this weekend and looking forward to it. Waiting...

A New Chapter

Well, we're getting close to our transition from a family of 3 to a family of 4. It's hard to believe that my due date is just 4 days away... We're thinking baby Granger may take his sweet time, though. And, who knows? Maybe he'll come on his Daddy's 9th birthday :)

I'm feeling good and just taking in these last days of Jetty being our only child. He is such a delight to my heart and this stage is so much fun. He makes me laugh and smile hourly (at least) with his dancing and singing and book reading and playing and working and interacting with people. He is such a flirt and it's so funny and cute.

It has been such a blessing to have the long-awaited pregnancy that I've hoped and prayed for and to have such grace on it. I am really not uncomfortable or sleeping poorly or miserable in any way. I'm mostly just thankful to have this sweet baby bumping around inside me and reminding me how faithful God is. It has been like God told me - every day is a gift. It hasn't been completely symptom free, but easy and enjoyable enough for me to know how blessed I am!

Looking forward to how "the birth story" will take place. I don't feel nervous, just curious. I'm not in a hurry, but I am thankful that I'll get to have that experience soon. Not having my own birth story has been one of the hardest parts for me in relating to other moms - it's very much a rite of passage I have wanted and been missing for a long time. I'm grateful to have been a part of 4 (almost 5 - wasn't fast enough for that last one!) birth stories, but looking forward to experiencing it myself.

Thinking of all the lovely ladies I've had the privilege to walk with through the same kind of waiting season and praying that they'll get to feel what I feel right now. Thinking of all the people who have prayed with us and for us (friends, family, strangers) and how God is answering a lot of prayers with one little person. Thinking of who this baby will look like and how he'll nurse and how he'll sleep and how Jett will adjust to being a big brother. Imagining it will be harder and more rewarding than I can get my mind around...

Feeling full. Humbled. Happy. Round. Tired (the good kind). Hopeful.

The Haun Boys (plural)

Yes, as you may have heard, I am pregnant and expecting a little brother for Jett in February or March. We are so excited! After 6 years of trying to be pregnant, God has answered our (and countless others') prayers... And we are blessed, thankful, stunned, amazed, confused and happy!

Casey and I have both felt the weight of this gift and had very clear revelation from Jesus about His restoration in this entire process.

In recent years, Casey came to the realization that the older brother he never knew (who went to heaven before Casey was born) was a huge loss in his life. He grieved that loss with a depth of emotion he hadn't before experienced... Just knowing there could have been someone to have his back like only a big brother can do, that it could have been "the Haun boys" and even as he's walked through a difficult season, missing that advocate and voice of wisdom. Now, this is not to say that God hasn't been faithful to provide in other ways for these these needs in Casey's life, because He certainly has!

But at the sonogram where we learned that our next baby is a boy, I heard Jesus say that this baby is going to have a big brother - a big brother, who, because of his birthmother's courage and sacrifice, is the most wonderful, amazing gift in our lives to date! And a gift from God that, if his birthmother had followed the world's recommendations about how to deal with unexpected pregnancy, could easily not have been given at all. And now people will get to say, "Here come the Haun boys."

We did have a wonderful dinner at the Hauns and I got to relax all day on my birthday with Morgan, Kaye, Betsy, Casey and Jett. Mo even gave me a manicure :) Thanks for making my day so fun, y'all!!

Paige turned 33 on January 8 and I got to fly to California (by MYSELF!) to surprise her and say goodbye one more time before she headed to India. It was so fun... Pedicures, visiting, relaxing, cooking (Marci made sugar cookies!), just hanging out - the best!

So, stomach sickness continued to plague our Christmas :( This time Jeff and Casey were sick while the rest of us partied. It was not the same without them (or even with them - when they made the effort to join us, they were quite subdued).

Casey felt good enough to make a show of his REI women's biker pants Jeff got him...

Jett's favorite activity was watching Tatu's (very loud) train circle around the Christmas Tree. Unfortunately, no one could carry on conversation while it was going, so he didn't get to see it as much as he would have liked.

We always love our Christmas tradition at Honey and Tatu's house. We just wish we could have avoided sickness this year! We kept saying 'Merry Freakin' Christmas' anytime something went awry :)

Christmassy Saturday

OOOOOO! I love Saturdays. Especially Saturdays in December. Our first one this year did not disappoint :)

Aunt Jen stayed with Jett on Friday night so we could have a date with Melanie and Andy, then a little coffee date together after we put Jett to sleep. Then we had a slumber party and stayed up past midnight to watch a Christmas movie... Saturday morning pancakes, a trip to the park, lunch at Fuzzy's. Really. Happy. Day.

He made friends with a pretty lady at Fuzzy's and she took him for a tour of the kitchen. He thought he was hot stuff!!

Then we got to celebrate Tatum's first birthday with the Griffin girls!! She got to have her first chocolate pancake and boy was she digging it!!

19 months

My niece, Cami, is expecting a little boy in early February, so since she's in Indiana now, we wanted to have a shower for her here while she was in town for Thanksgiving. Our Thanksgiving celebrations began with a little picture taking with the Smith kids and Jett on Thanksgiving Eve. We had fun trying to get them all to smile (naturally) all at the same time. Hopefully the photographer got some good ones :)

We celebrated God's goodness immediately following our photo session at the Hauns' house and everything was wonderful.

On Thanksgiving Day, Jett and I went to my Mom's and Casey went to the Cowboys game. Love the family time, the good food and that my hubby got to have an adventure! We also got to see out-of-town family, the Stokeses and the Zakaryans. Thank you, Jesus. We are TRULY grateful for all the gifts you give us - most especially the people.

Kansas City with Ashley O

Oh, how much fun it is to be with our sweet Ashley. We miss her and she keeps swearing she's not moving back to Dallas, so we keep trying to work in visits when we can! This one was a last minute weekend jaunt and we had such a lovely time.

We chilled together at the house and looked at the beautiful golden tree in the back yard. We even got to worship together!

Jett got to go to Lauren and Chase's Costume Birthday Party, so he decided to go at Santa (thanks to Shep for the suit). He had fun pretending to be a big kid. And, of course, after the party we had to make a trip to Bass Pro Shop for some running around, followed by a trip to Frisco to visit Honey, Tatu and his cousins. What a fun, full day. AND, it was also a little staycation with Aunt Jen - icing on the top!

Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, Jett is 18 months old. One and a half. A full-on toddler throwing temper tantrums a the drop of a hat. But, boy, is he cute and fun!! Love you, little man.

PS There was a lawn crew working across the street, which allowed us to photograph him sitting still. He sat there for 40 minutes past his photo shoot!!! Amazing.

Whitings in Texas: Just Where They Should Be

Sweet Paige and the newfound love of her life, Sean, made a trip to Texas because they love us and are about to embark on (another) international adventure! They're headed to India at the first of next year, so they are making trips around the country for some good quality time with friends before they go. Their trip to Texas was no exception - we got some good quality time :)

Paige got to meet Jen, which was so fun. We shared gelato (and hot chocolate) at one of our favorite places: Paciugo. Paige and Jen share a love of white Jettas. Paige attempted to convert Sean to being a Jetta-lover, but he was having none of it.

Then we headed to the Hauns' front porch for some wine and hor d'0euvres. So fun. A little fall weather even graced us with its presence for the afternoon, much to Sean's relief.

We enjoyed hanging out at our house, watching Jett play with Aunt Peach and Uncle Whitey. He even gave Paige some serious snuggle time, which rarely happens for anyone! She was pretty happy about that...

We ventured out to some parks and the Grapevine Botanical Gardens, which were beautiful. Jett loved being outside (as always) and getting the undivided attention of 4 adults. He thought that ratio was about right.

One of his favorite games is "Pull the hair of the person upon whose shoulders you're riding." Uncle Whitey was no exception, but he was much more subtle in his cries of pain that Jett's dad - big surprise there!

He loves swinging, especially with a pretty lady :)

There are no words to express how much we love Paige and Sean and how special their friendship is to us. Jesus is just so good to us. Love y'all!! Thanks for making the trip out.

10 Years?

Could it really have been 10 years since I graduated from college? It appears so! We had a great visit to Santa Barbara. I took most of my pictures on my phone, which I haven't transferred to my computer, but here are a few I took with my camera.

Those Gorgeous Griffin Girls

We just love the Griffins and we love getting to hang out with the girls, which we had the opportunity to do. We shared cinnamon toast and then played in the back yard - went to the beach, the pool, made sand castles, had a birthday party (all pretend), ate dirt, leaves, wood chips (all real). Then we went for a walk/bike ride and ended our time with a little "Step In Time" from Mary Poppins and some lunch when Tara came home! Whew! What fun...

16 months

Jett is 16 months old and he is really getting big. He's talking A LOT of Jettish and has added several signs and a few words (banana, apple, mama, daddy, Tatu). I'm not kidding, that guy started jabbering first thing this morning and he did not stop until we fed him - even though we both fell asleep as he took clothes and shoes out of our closet and scattered them around the house, happily chatting away. So much fun...

This is his "what are those crazy people doing?" face. Aunt Jen and I were making lots of noise and jumping up and down so he'd stay in his chair for 2.3 seconds...

One More Beach Trip

Jett and I snuck away from our staycation for one more visit at the "Beach" with Darcy, Mae, the Wilders and the DeLaneys. It was really fun and Jett was even braver in the water than he was last week!

It started to rain while we were there and it made it so cool - ahhhh! A nice break in August.

Staycation

So, we didn't get to go to Galveston with the Hauns this year - bummer. But we did get to have a vacation at their home, which aside from the missing sand, ocean and shark's teeth, is just as good or better! Honey and Tatu know how to have a good time and Jett and I took full advantage of that :)

Look at this impromtu breakfast on the patio (add fan to simulate ocean breeze)! So fun and so yummy.

We did a lot of swimming and eating and watching HGTV and we are really thankful for our time away. Jett loved spending time with all the people that are so good at showing how much they love him. We are very blessed, happy and satisfied :) Thanks to Honey and Tatu for all their hard work in hosting us and to all our friends who watched our house and animals. LOVE Y'ALL!

Kaleb is Officially a Teenager...

Yep. It's hard to believe that the little guy who said "My cousin doesn't like it when they call him Ow-stin" is as tall as me now. SO FAST! He's a great guy and I'm so proud of him. Jett really digs him, too :)

We swam at Kaleb's dad's house and had a great time throwing all manner of swim toys at each other for over an hour. Jett was wide-eyed and amazed at the craziness. His Grammy, who did not swim, was not as amused at the water-logged objects being chucked at her :) Happy days...

Precious Promises

Sojourn had a worship conference that I got to attend because my sweet Mother-in-Law and my sweet friend Tara volunteered to watch Jett. It was so wonderful to spend some uninterrupted time worshiping. The last day, this beautiful rainbow showed up over the water tower outside the building :)

Taylor came in town - and got a little uninterrupted time worshiping, too - with John C. Jett and I got to meet this cutie pie after the conference was over. He's the sweetest guy. So happy to see his dimple cheeks (and his beautiful mama) in person!

Jesus is so good to me. Even in the waiting, he promised he'd never leave and he hasn't. And he's given me such amazing people to walk through life with. I'm thankful...

Camp Davis 2010

One of my favorite places in the entire world: Camp Davis in New Mexico. This year was so fun because Jett got to walk around, explore, play in the dirt and mud puddles, ride horses - just be a little boy. It made my heart happy.

Splash at the Savoye

Our friends, the Wileys, were in town from Colorado. The were staying at The Savoye, so we got to join Amy and Brett for an afternoon swim in "Splash" (that's what the signs said instead of "Pool"). It was perfect for the boys. Brett and Jett had matching swim trunks - in different colors - and had a great time playing in the fountains.

So glad we got to play! So glad we got to meet Anna Kate! Love the Wileys!

Casey's Second Father's Day

Casey's big day started with a trip to Taco Cabana. He thinks it feels like vacation.

Then we went to my mom's house to swim. Jett doesn't really like the swimming part so much. But he really likes climbing the stairs to the slide. Neeerrrvous mama. .

And he likes her swing.

Then Grammy took us to Fuzzy's Tacos. Again, Casey's choice. Good choice, my love.

Jett got to ride in his forward facing car seat for the first time. He really liked it, but he must have been ready to get out when I took this shot.

We headed to Honey and Tatu's next for some swimming and fried tacos. Have you noticed a taco theme (breakfast, lunch and dinner!!!). Looks like Tatu was enjoying his Father's Day.

Fun times! Hope all those dads felt loved and celebrated...

Farm Boy

We had a little work day at the farm, so Jett got another chance to get used to the idea of cows and horses. He's coming around, slowly but surely. But he really likes the riding lawn mower :) He rode with his Aunt Cathie and was hooked. He's ready to mow by himself - if only he could reach the gas pedal!

We got a tour of all the fruit trees in Grammy's orchard and picked blackberries and wild plums, too. We were tired (and dirty) when we went home!

Breakfast with Angie

We got to have Angie and Garrett over for breakfast on Friday morning. Casey made us yummy omelets and we got to do a little visiting before we had to get to work. It was great to see them and spend a little time together :)

Swimming Lessons

I've taken Jett to morning swim class at the public pool in Lewisville every morning this week. Today, Casey got to take him - they're swimming buddies, you know. Jett has not been a big fan of the very cold water or the organized swimming activities. However, he really likes the planes that fly overhead, the crew that mowed the lawn outside the pool and the cars that drive by. :)

YAY! Jason and Coli treated us to a wonderful birthday dinner for our birthdays - even though it was really Jason's birthday week! - and we had a blast. Jett immediately took to Jason because he made funny faces and laughed loudly a lot. But as soon as he got to sit next to Miss Coli, he turned the charm on! He definitely did as much (or more) flirting than eating.

The Mall

Jett and I got to meet the Smiths at Willow Bend for lunch. While we were eating, the boys spotted Adelaide and walked over to join her in digging out money from the fountain. Aren't they cuties!?

Then we got to play on the playground together! Yay!

When Casey and I first got married, there was an Italian Ice place by our apartment in Coppell. It was one of our favorite places to go together. Sadly, it closed after about a year. Fast forward 8 years: a new place, called Rita's, opened up in Flower Mound just a few minutes down the road from us. It's advertised as frozen custard, but they have the same thing as our beloved Italian Ice place!!!

We had a great day with the Griffins: we started out visiting the girls at their house in the afternoon. We shared lunch, the kids played and we had a good time. Jett and I headed home for his nap and then the entire Griffin family came to pick us up in their new pickup truck to take us to their friends' house for swimming and a cookout. Such a fun time...

This is their friend, Samuel, who is just a week younger than Jett. They had a fun time in the cooler :)

We got to meet Ava and her mama, Hannah, at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens. It was a warm day - it felt like TEXAS SUMMER - but we sure had a good time with those beautiful ladies. Ava was born 6 days after Jett, but she's been walking since she was 9 months! He got to try out his new walking skills around a pro :)

Her mama told her to give Jett and hug... This is how 13-month-olds hug. Adorable.

He wasn't standing up, so she sat down to relate to him on his level. Isn't that just like a girl? Ha!

Can't wait to hang some more with these sweet friends!

Jett's been taking steps since Mother's Day, but never on his own volition. We got to have dinner with the Wortons and watching those big boys run and jump in the pool was just the impetus he needed. Casey and I were deep in conversation when I noticed him standing and walking on his own... lamb bones in hand. So funny and so cute! He loved playing with Caleb and Judah :)

It was a good week. We got to eat lunch with Aunt Mo and Honey! After lunch with Mo, she bought Jett a birthday donut and he liked it :)

Then she held him while he watched cars in the parking lot (one of his very favorite activities).

Jett gave both these lovely ladies some snuggles - quick ones, but snuggles nevertheless. AND, he walked on Honey's front porch while Tatu recorded him :) He's getting so big!
Thanks for making our week so fun, sweet family. It was supposed to continue at Aunt Holly's house, but Jett got a sad tummy, so we were thankful for our good outings before our homebound days. And, we still have fun with Aunt Holly to look forward to when he's all better...

Mother's Day

Jett and Casey made me breakfast on Mother's Day. Then we headed to Lighthouse to hear Nanny, Honey and Holly run the service - they did a fabulous job! Afterward, we headed to Prego's with the Haun clan. Then to my mom's house to hang out with her for the rest of the evening. Happy Day!

Just Another Day on the Farm

We were long overdue for a farm trip, so Jett and I joined Grammy on her weekly trip. Jett, however, was not enthused about those large animal or the loud noises they made. He would not let me put him down. All day.

Honey's Birthday Eve

Kaye Haun is the queen of birthdays and we've been having a great time celebrating her special day all week! Jett and I got to have lunch with the birthday girl on her birthday eve - what fun! Here was the girls' table.

And the kids' table (Betsy liked to sit at both). Jett did great!
After lunch, we got to play at Honey and Tatu's house. Aunt Mo took Jett up on Tatu's tractor and he LOVED every second. He was touching every lever he could reach and talking a lot.
Ricky took a break from his work and put on his party clothes to celebrate his bride.
Cindy brought Owen over and he and Betsy got some good rides behind the bicycle.
Honey bounced Jett to sleep and he took his afternoon (evening) nap in her arms. So sweet.
Beau is very shy and retiring around cameras.

Casey couldn't stay away, so he headed over after work and we partied some more. And, of course, we had to end the party in the hot tub.

Getaway with the Stokes Family

Waco is the perfect midpoint to meet friends who live in Austin! Good thing Morgan's parents have a great house in Waco that they let us visit for the weekend.
